Bhubaneswar, Aug. 10 -- The Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway has taken strict contractual action against the executing agency responsible for the tensile roofing work at Rourkela Railway Station.

The canopy at Rourkela Station comprises RCC foundation, structural steel framework and tensile fabric canopy. The work was completed in October 2025 and was covered under a seven-year guarantee.

However, on 27 May 2026, heavy winds caused significant damage to the tensile roofing, resulting in nearly half of the tensile fabric being torn apart. The structural steel framework remained intact, however indicating deficiency in material, workmanship and execution.
