Bhubaneswar, June 18 -- Odisha CM Mohan Majhi on Thursday suspended senior IPS officer Dayal Gangwar, marking a significant development in the high-profile GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain death case in Balianta that drew widespread public attention in Odisha. Gangwar had come under controversy after allegations were levelled against him by Soumya's family following the latter's death in an alleged mob violence incident.

According to the allegations made by Soumya's father and mother, their son had been subjected to mental harassment. The claims brought the role of the senior police officer under scrutiny and intensified demands for action in the matter.
