Rebel TMC faction replaces Mamata Banerjee as chairperson, picks Arup Roy
Bhubaneswar, June 22 -- A major power struggle has erupted within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after a dissident group of party leaders and legislators appointed senior MLA Arup Roy as the chairperson of what they termed the 'real' TMC, directly challenging the leadership of party founder Mamata Banerjee.
The rebel camp, headed by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, also announced the suspension of national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and unveiled a parallel organisational structure, indicating that the revolt has expanded beyond the legislature into the party's organisational framework.
