India, July 31 -- An unfinished bridge in Denua panchayat under Nimapada block of Odisha's Puri district has become a daily challenge for more than 15 families, who continue to cross the half-built structure by placing wooden planks and bamboo over it. While the contractor blames pending bills for the stalled work, the concerned department cites a shortage of funds, leaving villagers with no safe way to reach the other side.

The bridge, being built for Rs 20 lakh to connect Harijan Sahi with the main village, was inaugurated in March. The work continued for a few days before coming to a halt. Since then, residents, including children and elderly people, have been using a makeshift crossing over the canal.
