Bhubaneswar, July 11 -- Onion prices have started bringing tears to consumers in Odisha as rates have doubled within just 15 days, causing concern among households.

As per reports, the vegetable, which was being sold at around Rs 20 per kg a fortnight ago, is now being sold at nearly Rs 40 per kg in the market.

Traders have attributed the sudden price rise to a decline in onion supply due to heavy rainfall in major onion-producing regions like Indore and Nashik. Continuous rains have affected transportation and reduced the arrival of onions in markets, leading to a shortage and subsequent increase in prices.
