Bhubaneswar, March 13 -- An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police has been arrested by the Odisha Vigilance on charges of accepting a bribe in Rajgangpur of Sundargarh district.
The accused, identified as Arupananda Das, was posted at Badgaon Police Station. According to vigilance officials, he was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 from a hotel owner.
Officials said the ASI had been demanding Rs 25,000 every month from the hotel owner to allow the business to operate without interference. Acting on a complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap and caught the officer while he was receiving the money.
