Bhubaneswar, Aug. 5 -- Road accidents have emerged as one of the most pressing public safety concerns in Odisha's Sundargarh district, where hundreds of lives continue to be lost despite sustained enforcement efforts. The onset of the monsoon has only worsened the situation, making roads more dangerous for commuters.

According to official data, 264 people have died, and more than 500 others have been injured in road accidents across the district during the last six months. The greatest concern remains in Koida, widely known as the iron ore hub, where accidents involving heavy mining vehicles have become a regular occurrence.
