Bhubaneswar, Sept. 8 -- Bhubaneswar police secured a conviction in a theft case within nine days of the offence, claiming it to be the fastest conviction in a criminal case in Odisha. The case was registered at Laxmisagar police station after a bicycle worth Rs 18,000 was stolen from a complainant's residence.

According to The Times Of India, Judicial Magistrate First Class (IV), Bhubaneswar, Somesh Somyajit Panda sentenced accused M D Guddu, 26, to five months' imprisonment after finding him guilty of the theft.

The bicycle was stolen on August 26, while the theft was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the complainant's residence. Following the footage, police arrested Guddu on the same day.
