Bhubaneswar, Oct. 15 -- In a significant move aimed at providing relief to the poor, the Odisha government is planning to double the monthly rice allocation for ration card holders from 5 kg to 10 kg per person.

According to sources, nearly 3.25 crore beneficiaries across the state are likely to benefit once the proposal gets the green signal. The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department is preparing to send the proposal to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for final approval. If approved, this will mark one of the largest expansions of the state's food security support in recent years.
