Bhubaneswar, May 9 -- A fresh dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh surfaced on Saturday over census enumeration in a border village of Gajapati district, escalating tensions in the long-standing inter-state territorial row.

The controversy erupted in Manikapatna village under Gangabada panchayat of Rayagada block in Gajapati district after officials from Odisha reportedly conducted census enumeration and marked house numbers as part of the exercise.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn when officials from Andhra Pradesh allegedly entered the village and erased the numbers written by Odisha authorities before replacing them with Andhra census markings.
