NIT Rourkela develops smart wound dressing that reduces pain and prevents infections
Bhubaneswar, June 30 -- Researchers at the National Institute of Technology (NIT)Rourkela, Odisha have developed a smart wound dressing that helps prevent infections, reduces pain during dressing changes and supports faster healing.
The research, led by Prof. Prasoon Kumar from the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering, aims to solve a common problem faced by patients with wounds that require frequent dressing changes. Conventional cotton gauze often sticks to the wound, causing pain and damaging newly formed tissue when removed.
The newly developed dressing combines chitosan coated cotton gauze with an electrospun nanofibrous layer containing curcumin, a natural compound known for its antibacterial properties.
