Minor flood alert issued as Baitarani river nears danger mark in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, July 6 -- A minor flood warning has been issued for low-lying areas in northern Odisha following heavy rainfall in the upper and middle catchment zones of the Baitarani River. The State water resources officials expect the river to cross its danger mark at Akhuapada after 4:00 pm on Monday. It will most likely cause minor to moderate flooding across Jajpur, Akhuapada, and Bhadrak within the next 24 hours.
The Baitarani basin has recorded an average of 73 mm of rainfall, prompting the department to begin managing water volumes upstream. The low-lying areas of Jajpur district are projected to face the most significant impact from the runoff.
