Bhubaneswar, June 1 -- A disturbing case of alleged wildlife crime has emerged from Kandarasuni area under Hindol block in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, where the carcass of an elephant was exhumed on Monday from inside a private farmhouse after forest officials launched an intensive investigation.

According to preliminary findings, the elephant allegedly entered an orchard and reportedly damaged mango plantations on the premises of a local man's farmhouse. Instead of informing forest authorities, the farmhouse owner is accused of illegally electrifying a solar fence, leading to the elephant's death.
