Bhubaneswar, May 31 -- Electricity department employees were allegedly detained and assaulted by villagers in Malkangiri district on Saturday. After a prolonged power outage left nearly 10 villages without electricity for several days following damage caused by a Kalbaisakhi storm, the villagers attacked the workers.

The incident occurred in MV-6 village under Malkangiri sadar area, where residents reportedly stopped electricity personnel from leaving after restoration work could not be completed.

Police and administrative officials later intervened, rescued the employees and assured residents that power supply would be restored at the earliest.
