Bhubaneswar, Oct. 16 -- In a significant political development ahead of the Nuapada by-election, former BJD leader Lambodar Nial has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nial has also resigned from BJD, formally notifying the party president of his decision through a letter.

Lambodar Nial had earlier contested from the Kalahandi Lok Sabha constituency as a BJD candidate. His switch to the BJP comes amid increased political activity in the region ahead of the by-poll. On Thursday, Nial visited BJP candidate Jay Dholakia's residence, where the two leaders held a closed-door meeting.
