India, July 31 -- The Jagatsinghpur district administration stepped up flood preparedness amid fears of a major flood in the Mahanadi and Devi rivers. Extensive precautionary measures have been put in place as rising water levels threatened to inundate several parts of the district.

District Collector J. Sonal convened an emergency meeting on Thursday and directed officials across all departments to remain on high alert. As part of the preparedness measures, the leave of all departmental government officials has been cancelled. The officials have also been instructed not to leave their respective headquarters until further orders.
