Internal rift within BJD halts BMC standing committee election in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, June 24 -- A standing committee election in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was stalled on Tuesday after differences within the BJD came out in the open. A dispute over a chairperson post led to the cancellation of one nomination process, with fresh elections now set to be held after seven days.
The controversy erupted after BJD corporators clashed over the standing committee chairperson election. Amid allegations and counter-allegations, the election for one committee could not be completed, exposing cracks within the ruling party in the civic body.
BJD corporator Biranchi Narayan Mahasupakar demanded strict action against those responsible for violating party discipline.
