India, July 31 -- Indian Railways has introduced an online personal luggage booking facility from July 31 for passengers travelling on confirmed train tickets. The digital initiative aims to simplify the parcel booking process and provide greater convenience for passengers carrying luggage inside reserved compartments.

The decision follows a Railway Board communication dated July 20, 2026, directing all zonal railways to operationalise the online portal, as reported by The Indian Express.

Under Railway Board Freight Marketing Circular No. 38 of 2006, free luggage limits are set at 70 kg for First AC, 50 kg for First Class and Second AC, 40 kg for Third AC (3AC), AC Chair Car (CC), and Sleeper Class, and 35 kg for Second Class.
