Bhubaneswar, April 5 -- Cash payments at toll plazas on national highways will be discontinued from April 10, according to a government notification, signalling a nationwide move towards a fully digital tolling system. The decision follows earlier plans to phase out cash transactions and strengthen electronic collection across the network.
The National Highways Authority of India will now process toll payments exclusively through digital modes such as FASTag and the Unified Payments Interface, a step aimed at improving commuter convenience, increasing lane throughput, and reducing congestion at fee plazas.
