India gets world's first once-weekly insulin for Type 1 & 2 diabetes; here's why it matters
Bhubaneswar, July 9 -- Managing diabetes often means living with daily insulin injections, a routine that many patients find difficult to follow. Now, a new treatment launched in India could significantly reduce that burden. Novo Nordisk has introduced Awiqli (insulin icodec), the world's first once-weekly basal insulin for adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, offering patients an alternative to daily injections.
The launch marks a major step in diabetes care, as patients who currently require one basal insulin injection every day may now need just one injection a week. This reduces the number of annual injections from 365 to only 52.
