Bhubaneswar, Feb. 6 -- Mobile phone batteries may look small and harmless, but they carry serious risks if mishandled. Most smartphones use lithium-ion cells packed with flammable electrolytes. When damaged, punctured, or short-circuited, these batteries can overheat rapidly and enter a dangerous reaction known as thermal runaway - often resulting in fire or violent explosions.

Despite repeated warnings, people continue to treat them casually. A recent viral incident shows just how disastrous that can be.
