India, Sept. 17 -- A gun-wielding group allegedly attempted to abduct a newly married woman on Thursday from Harichandanpur village in Jajpur district, but local villagers intervened and caught two of the alleged abductors.

Police have seized a gun and detained the two suspects.

In a dramatic incident in the morning, some villagers reportedly foiled an alleged attempt to forcibly abduct a newly married woman by confronting the men who allegedly arrived with a gun.

The incident took place in Harichandanpur village under Dharmasala police limits.

The woman, identified as Priyanka Maharana, had married Surendra Mallik through a court marriage on May 12, 2026, despite opposition from her family.
