Fresh paddy procurement row erupts in Puri as farmers allege massive deductions
Bhubaneswar, June 28 -- A fresh controversy erupted over paddy procurement in Puri district, with farmers alleging excessive deductions and irregularities at the Kunjeswari Society procurement centre in Kanas block.
According to the farmers, millers are deducting between 11 and 12 kilograms from every quintal of paddy, resulting in significant financial losses. They also claimed that their produce is being rejected on the grounds that it does not meet Fair Average Quality (FAQ) standards.
Another major grievance is the non availability of jute sacks. Farmers allege they were forced to bring their paddy in plastic sacks, which the millers later refused to accept.
