Bhubaneswar, Sept. 1 -- Continuous rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has raised concerns of fresh flooding in parts of northern Odisha, with water levels in the Jalaka and Budhabalanga rivers steadily rising.

At Mathani in Basta block of Balasore district, the Jalaka River touched its danger level of 6.50 metres by 6 am on Tuesday, following heavy rain in Balasore and its upstream areas in neighbouring Mayurbhanj district over the past two days.

Heavy rainfall in areas including Rasagobindpur, Morada, Suliapada and Chitrada has contributed to the steady rise in the river's water level. With rain continuing, fears of a flood situation have intensified.
