Bhubaneswar, April 16 -- Notorious criminal Raja Sahani was sent back to judicial custody on Thursday after the completion of his remand period. Sahani, who had earlier escaped from Choudwar Circle Jail and was subsequently arrested, was taken on a seven-day remand by Karnataka Police for investigation.

Following the end of the remand, Karnataka Police handed him back to judicial custody. Officials said further legal proceedings are likely as multiple cases have been registered against him in different states.

Sahani is accused of being involved in theft and robbery cases across at least six states, making him a most-wanted criminal for several police units. Authorities had intensified efforts across states to track his movements.
