Bhubaneswar, March 21 -- In a key step towards protecting India's ecosystems, the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has constituted a specialised expert committee to address the growing spread of invasive alien species across the country.
The move follows concerns flagged by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) over the increasing impact of such species on biodiversity, agriculture, and overall ecological balance.
Invasive alien species-organisms introduced outside their native regions-are emerging as a major threat to India's natural habitats. Their unchecked spread can disrupt ecosystems, damage crops, and pose risks to both wildlife and human health.
