Buried elephant carcass triggers action; forest officer suspended, ranger served show-cause notice
Bhubaneswar, June 2 -- Following the discovery of an elephant carcass at a farmhouse in Angul, major action has been taken by forest dept as Section Forest Officer Dipti Ranjan Acharya was suspended for negligence on duty, and Range Officer Trilochan Dehuri was issued a showcause notice on Tuesday.
The incident came to light after a disturbing case of alleged wildlife crime which emerged from the Kandarasuni area under Hindol block in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, where the carcass of an elephant was exhumed from a farmhouse.
The discovery prompted swift action from forest officials, who detained three people and launched an investigation into the incident.
