Bhubaneswar, Sept. 25 -- BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Friday demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and called for a thorough review of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Patnaik said that the reported differences between the Election Commissioners and the CEC warranted Kumar's resignation and a fresh review of the SIR process. The BJD opposed the SIR exercise from the beginning, he said.

Speaking to reporters, Patnaik said, "Because of the strong differences between various Election Commissioners and the Chief Election Commissioner, the Chief Election Commissioner should immediately resign and the whole SIR process should be thoroughly revisited."
