Bhubaneswar, April 29 -- India is weighing a cap on the number of airports a single bidder can win in its upcoming privatisation of 11 airports, amid concerns over market concentration and monopoly risks in the civil aviation sector. The move follows last year's industry-wide disruption linked to a crisis at IndiGo, which exposed vulnerabilities tied to dominance by a single player.
Government officials said discussions are underway to design bidding norms that promote competition and prevent key infrastructure from being concentrated in the hands of one entity. The exercise is expected to be among the largest airport privatisation drives in the country, as per a report by The Economic Times.
