Bhubaneswar, July 11 -- A major breakthrough has been made in the Berhampur self-immolation attempt case, with police arresting the girl's father based on her complaint and the evidence collected during the investigation.

According to the Additional SP, the girl has alleged that she was subjected to sexual abuse by her father. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alok Jena said the police had taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and registered a case considering the seriousness of the incident.
