Bhubaneswar, Aug. 16 -- A portion of the Baitarani river embankment caved in at Dasarathpur in Odisha's Jajpur district over a stretch of more than 40 feet, sources said on Sunday.

Officials and staff of the Water Resources Department reached the spot and were overseeing the repair work after getting information about the incident.

The affected stretch is located near Kuanr Sahi in Ward No. 4 of Duduranta panchayat under Dasarathpur block. The right-side embankment of the river suffered damage after a portion caved in.

As per initial reports, sandbags and bamboo poles were used as part of the repair work. The efforts were being carried out with the involvement of local residents.
