After egg row, West Bengal looks to Odisha's midday meal model
Bhubaneswar, June 29 -- The West Bengal government is considering Odisha's model of providing eggs in school midday meals after its decision to hand over the programme to ISKCON triggered a political controversy.
According to a report by Times Of India, the school education department is exploring a system under which schools would receive additional funds to buy eggs separately, while ISKCON would continue preparing and serving the meals. Officials are expected to discuss the proposal at a meeting on Wednesday.
The state government recently announced that ISKCON would prepare and serve midday meals in government aided schools in Kolkata. However, the organisation said its menu would not include any non vegetarian items, including eggs....
