Bhubaneswar, March 29 -- Panic gripped the residents of a village in Sundargarh on Sunday after an unidentified wild animal allegedly killed and dragged away a cow on a nearby hill. The incident was reported from Birtola village under Subdega block in the district, raising fears of a possible predator roaming close to human habitation.

According to local sources, the alleged attack took place on Jogijogiani hill, located near the village. The carcass of a cow was found partially eaten, and signs indicated that the animal had been dragged some distance after the kill. Based on footprints and the surrounding conditions, villagers initially suspected the presence of a carnivorous animal in the area.
