Bhubaneswar, June 1 -- The health condition of Rakesh Behera, the youth who allegedly suffered police torture while in custody at Barang Police Station in Cuttack district, showed slight improvement on Monday, according to his family.

Rakesh's mother informed the media that he is now able to speak, offering a ray of hope as he continues to undergo treatment in a critical care unit at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack.

The alleged custodial torture case has sparked widespread concern and drawn attention to police conduct in the district.
