Guwahati, Sept. 22 -- Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has called for a mass gathering in Guwahati on September 23, seeking immediate relief and compensation for families affected by the devastating floods in Upper Assam this monsoon.

The protest is scheduled to be held at Chachal from 10 am and is expected to bring together flood-affected people from Sivasagar, Jorhat and Charaideo districts, along with others supporting their demands.

Gogoi said the protest was against what he described as the failure to provide promised immediate relief to flood-affected families. He said families whose houses and belongings had been destroyed should receive Rs 10 lakh in compensation.
