Guwahati, April 27 -- Two young men from Assam's Cachar district were killed after a goods vehicle met with an accident in Saitual district near Keifang.

The victims were Akmal Hussain Laskar, also known as Shaheen, and Rahul Alam Mazumdar. Laskar was at the wheel at the time, while Mazumdar was travelling with him. Both belonged to Khulicherra under Cachar's Dholai area.

Reports indicate that they were on their way to Silchar when the incident took place. The vehicle, carrying ginger and registered as AS 01SC 7343, failed to stay on the road while passing through a steep stretch and fell into a gorge below.

Officials said the fall caused severe damage to the vehicle, and both men died on the spot.
