Guwahati: Amid widespread speculation on social media regarding the alleged sale of The Assam Tribune, an English daily published from Guwahati, to industrialist Gautam Adani, the newspaper group has strongly denied the claims, calling them "baseless and defamatory".

In a strongly worded statement issued on social media, the management of The Assam Tribune said the rumours originated from an "unverified Facebook post" uploaded on May 24 by one Gyanen Chakraborty, which allegedly claimed that the newspaper had been sold to Adani for Rs 420 crore.
