Guwahati, Sept. 4 -- The historic Negheriting Temple near Dergaon has recently received renewed attention after the Assam Chief Minister visited the temple and indicated that the site would soon be developed as a major tourism destination. Perched on a hillock amid a scenic landscape, the temple is not merely a place of worship but also an important repository of Assam's religious, architectural and cultural history.

Negheriting is essentially a Panchadevata or Panchayatana temple, representing the combined worship of five principal deities, Shiva, Vishnu, Durga, Ganesha and Surya.
