Dimapur: The Government of India has recognised 19 notified tribal local languages and dialects of Nagaland in the recruitment process of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) in the postal department.

Nagaland's lone Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, who initiated and pursued the recruitment policy reform for GDS in Nagaland, called the Centre's decision "historic".

In a statement on Thursday, Jamir said the decision is a significant acknowledgment of the linguistic and cultural identity of the Naga people and will help ensure greater inclusivity, representation, and participation of the youth of Nagaland in the GDS recruitment process.
