Guwahati, July 4 -- The Mizoram government has launched a statewide drive against fraudulent Goods and Services Tax (GST) registrations after uncovering multiple cases involving forged documents and misleading information.

In a statement issued on Friday, the state taxation department said an extensive verification process had identified several suspicious GST registration applications. Many applicants were found to have submitted documents that could not be authenticated or listed business addresses where no commercial operations were taking place.

The department also discovered instances where GST registrations had allegedly been obtained using the names and property details of owners without their knowledge or consent.
