Guwahati, April 15 -- Shillong witnessed unrest on Tuesday, April 14, after the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) Laban Circle intervened to stop construction activity at Lower Lumparing, alleging the site was being used for religious purposes without required approval.

The group said the structure, identified as Lumparing Masjid, did not have approval from the local dorbar shnong or any concerned authority before being set up.

Laban Circle leader Shiningstar Chyne alleged that the construction was carried out on disputed land, with ownership yet to be properly verified.

He further stated that the site was earlier intended to house a chowkidar for a nearby Muslim burial ground but was later repurposed.
