Meghalaya: Six UP students undertake community service in Shillong after vandalising homestay
Guwahati, Sept. 12 -- A cleanliness drive in Shillong on Friday, September 11, saw the participation of six Uttar Pradesh students who had been ordered by the Meghalaya High Court to undertake community service over the vandalism of a homestay.
An FIR was registered against the students in connection with the incident. The high court later quashed the FIR after the students reached a Rs 2.06 lakh settlement with the homestay proprietor.
Under the settlement, the students paid compensation to the proprietor and offered an unconditional apology for their conduct. Two of them were additionally directed by the court to pay Rs 25,000 each to the proprietor within a week and complete six days of community service.
