Guwahati, April 14 -- A group of scientists from different institutions has identified a previously unknown species of burrowing reed snake in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district.
The newly discovered snake has been given the scientific name Calamaria garoensis, commonly referred to as the Garo Hills reed snake. Details of the finding have been published in Taprobanica, an international journal that reviews scientific research.
The study was carried out jointly by researchers associated with Help Earth, Cotton University, Assam Don Bosco University, Mizoram University, the Zoological Survey of India, and Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency.
