Meghalaya: Cabinet approves EV policy, offers Rs 25,000 incentive for electric vehicle buyers
Guwahati, July 28 -- The Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday approved the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2026, introducing financial incentives and other benefits to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles across the state.
Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak said every individual purchasing an electric vehicle will receive an incentive of Rs 25,000. The government has also decided to waive registration fees for all electric vehicles under the new policy.
According to the government, the initiative is aimed at accelerating the shift towards cleaner and more sustainable modes of transport while reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
