Meghalaya: 86 Laitumkhrah vendors relocated as Shillong moves to ease traffic congestion
Guwahati, Aug. 18 -- Traffic flow in Shillong's Laitumkhrah area improved on August 17 after authorities shifted 86 roadside hawkers and vendors to designated vending spaces at Dhankheti and Brightwell Bungalow.
The relocation is part of an ongoing effort to regulate roadside vending and ease congestion on some of the city's busiest stretches.
Shillong Municipal Board CEO PK Boro said the process was completed smoothly with the cooperation of the vendors.
"Everything is arranged, everything is done. Hawkers are obeying the order and cooperating," Boro said.
To ensure an organised allocation of spaces, stalls at the new vending locations were assigned through trade-wise draws of lots.
