Guwahati: A convoy carrying essential supplies on National Highway-202 in Manipur's Ukhrul district came under attack on May 29, leaving a truck driver dead and a police constable injured, an incident condemned by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
Officials said suspected militants opened fire on trucks transporting Food Corporation of India (FCI) rice on the Imphal-Ukhrul route between Leingangching and TM Kasom under the Litan Police Station area.
The Chief Minister, while mourning the death of the driver believed to be from West Bengal, called the incident a "cowardly act" intended to disrupt essential supplies and further worsen the tense situation in the region.
