Guwahati, April 11 -- A BSF constable was killed in Manipur's Ukhrul district on April 10 after being caught in firing between two armed village groups, officials said.

The violence was reported in the Litan area during the evening hours, when gunfire erupted between suspected Kuki-Zo members from Mongkot Chepu and Tangkhul Naga individuals from Shikibung. The exchange took place near Mongkot Chepu village at around 4:45 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Mithun Mandal of the Border Security Force's 170 Battalion, who was on duty when he was hit by a stray bullet.

At the time of the incident, he had been deployed for a road security operation. The gunfire left him with a serious injury to his shoulder.
