Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated its former Manipur unit president Adhikarimayum (A.) Sarda Devi as its candidate for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha election from the state. She officially submitted her nomination papers on June 8 at the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

The nomination was filed before the Returning Officer in the presence of Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh, along with several BJP MLAs and senior leaders who accompanied her during the process.

Sarda Devi's candidature is being seen as significant within the party, as she holds the distinction of being the first woman to have served as the BJP's state president in Manipur. Her selection also positions her...
