Guwahati: Paving the way for a second consecutive term, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday formally appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam.

The Raj Bhavan issued an official notification to this effect following Sarma's unanimous election as the leader of both the BJP and the NDA Legislature Parties.

The appointment has been made in exercise of the powers vested in the Governor under Clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India.
