CPI(M) to hold 'Demand Day' on August 21, seeks national disaster tag for Assam floods
Guwahati, Aug. 20 -- The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has announced a statewide 'Demand Day' on August 21 to press the Centre and Assam government for a national disaster declaration for the state's floods, an inquiry into their causes and a time-bound plan to address Assam's recurring flood problem.
The party has also sought enhanced relief and compensation for flood-affected families, including Rs 20 lakh for the families of those killed, Rs 1 lakh in immediate assistance to each affected family and up to Rs 10 lakh for houses completely destroyed in the floods.
